As our Principal Automation Engineer, you will:

  • Drive a culture of automation, innovation and continuous innovation.
  • Have technical oversight of multiple automation projects and will provide support, where required, for engineers developing and implementing projects, while working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of automated systems.
  • Have a deep technical expertise, be a strategic thinking, and have strong leadership capabilities to develop and implement automated solutions that enhance our operational efficiency and product quality.
  • Devise, lead and manage engineering programs from concept through to production readiness.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

What you will do:

  • Develop detailed understanding of best practice in product/process performance within the medical devices industry.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and prioritize initiatives.
  • Drive high levels of employee engagement through a highly effective support structure implemented for all engineers.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex technical problems where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Lead the design and implementation of automation strategies across projects.
  • Lead design, development, testing & refinement of automated system, sub-system & component.
  • Track project milestones and deliverables, managing risks (Proof of principals etc) and issues proactively.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems
  • Support code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards.
  • Develop and maintain automation frameworks and tools to streamline processes.
  • Develop documentation for automated systems to allow for standardisation, e.g. Dynamic URS, simplified change control for automated systems, Automation systems specifications which meet the requirements of the different standards.
  • Assist in developing training materials and user guides.
  • Be a Technological expert, willing to source, investigate and implement technological and automation advances
  • Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and technologies related to automation.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on new automation systems and processes.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to report on progress and address challenges.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Become Technical leader of engineers working on the Automated systems. Oversee automation projects from conception to execution, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Mentor and guide engineers in best practices for automation.
  • Track project milestones and deliverables, managing risks and issues proactively.

What you will need:

  • BS in Engineering Level 8 Honours Degree
  • Advanced Degree desired, ideally Masters, Black Belt or PHD
  • Has minimum of 8 years automation engineering/systems experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Excellent presentation and written / verbal communication skills
  • Technical leadership of engineers working on automated systems
  • Demonstrable Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills, a process improvement orientation, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment
  • Proven track record of leading successful automation projects and teams.
  • Proven experience with automation tools (e.g., PLC, SCADA, HMI).
  • Strong understanding of automated control systems such as Allen Bradley & Siemens, robotics, and industrial automation.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrable ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrable ability to lead significant projects and initiatives
  • To be a team player, with a flexible approach.
  • To be a Technological expert, willing to source, investigate and implement technological and automation advances, Capable of technically leading a multi-disciplined team.
  • To be a confident and effective decision maker, with a proven technical leadership ability to negotiate and influence others.
  • Experience in Medical Device Industry desirable.
  • Experience in Automated Packaging, Blasting, Linishing, Polishing, deburring & Masking desirable
